I'm seeing public players come on all the time, kill someone then get kicked because they don't have PunkBuster. The problem is they don't come back. I think this is a serious issue. I'm starting a poll to remove PunkBuster. It's old, it's not maintained and while it probably does catch some cheaters, if anyone uses those old cheats, which is unlikely, the fact that we are losing potential players and people to recruit because they don't come back. I am starting this poll in order to facilitate the removal of PunkBuster from our Call of Duty servers. If it was current, and maintained, this wouldn't be necessary, because the potential players would be updated. Since this is not the case, it's nearly impossible to get pubbers to come back so we can tell them to do all this manual crap to install it. It's not going to happen. Myself and others would love to see more traffic on these servers and this is the only way i can see it happening.

Just to be clear, I am not anti-cheat. On all modern games I think they , while not perfect, deter a long of riff raff. Because COD 4 and 5 are pushing 20 years old and PunkBuster dropped support, at this point, all I see them deterring is players.

This should be in the Admin section, as you're having non Admin members vote on clan policy.

Just a reminder, we tried this once. Not intentional, but accidentally. Yet it will have the same outcome.

Once during a change of hosting companies, and new server setups, we ended up with no punkbuster
on the servers for a while. The result was an overwhelming amount of pubbers hacking on the server.

And, an overwhelming amount of work for a single admin to monitor, and police.

Also a requirement of our agreement with PBBANS. The account we have for running detailed
searches of hackers, and banned players.

I figures since it potentially effected anyone who plays it would be a good idea to gauge response

Also we have almost zero traffic on our servers. I know there is no easy answer but people try to connect and then never try again when they don't know about the punkbuster thing.

Let me know how this vote turns out.

If no one reconsiders, I will have to take punkbuster off the server.
And cancel out PBBANS account that we use to check potential hackers.

Instead, what really keeps players off our servers, is that our own members
care to play elsewhere, instead of "taking one for the team", and hanging around
until it gets populated.

Also, taking the time to maybe recreate a Steam Group and send an invite out
to the group when you wish to play.

The other reason pubbers don't stick around, at least on the tactical server
is that when they are on, there are no admins on to warn or kick runners.

We can add "Requires Punkbuster Legacy" to the server name,
and in the steam group create posts that tell them how to fix the issues.

This is the age of "instant gratification". The young ones don't want to stick around
and wait for the server to populate.

Remember...There are only about 125 Call of Duty 5 servers.

The ones without punkbuster, "always" kick good players, for fear they are hacking.
I get kicked all the time from those tactical servers that don't use punkbuster.

I'm certainly open to that suggestion. Let's put this on hold and try your idea. Can we host the download(s) on our website with a quick instructional?

I have done that too before.

It sounds like I'm knocking all your ideas. I'm really not.
I just know what's been done before.

I put the files online, with instructions a child could follow (honestly, a child).
Once you put stuff online, anyone searching the net will come upon it, the
downloads were huge (bandwidth) from everywhere, except our members
who would still come on and have me do it for them, regardless of the
posts I made.

Also tried on a dropbox I had, but it exceeded the bandwidth (at the time).
And this was during the time I had it posted in the public forums. I'll dig up
that post.

Even helped pubbers (who we don't know) in many cases install it for them,
only to have them come on to play and be tards not following rules (wasted time).

This is just one of the many, many posts I made over the years for this issue:

viewtopic.php?f=86&t=13392&p=87800&hilit=punkbuster#p87800

(of course the download links are no longer valid)

I will look into Alpha hosting and see about FTP or other option.

I remember one time even putting the files on my own personal site, but they
were removed by the host (some violation or other...small print in contract)
