Thinking about upgrading. The component prices are remarkably similar as last time I did a major build, but some off the shelf pc's are practicly the same price as the components. If you were to buy an off the shelf pc where would you look and what brands have you had good luck with. Here is one I was looking at on newegg.

Looks like a nice system for the price. I can't advise since I've not built one in over 4 years. Good luck.

Its been longer since I built one, the bad thing about off the shelf is they always go cheap on stuff. This one has a small power supply and a home version for windows. But when I add up the parts its about the same price as buying components.

That's a nice system. If you have Amazon Prime, it's the same price on Amazon (free 2 day shipping with Prime).

I have always custom designed and built for myself and the kids (gaming), but as far as brands these days...

Asus is pretty good. Dell is another (off the shelf). I'd probably avoid HP, if for no other reason, it's preloaded with junk.

Dell used to be really good. Gateway too. Then Gateway got sold (changed hands) too many times.
And started making crap. Nothing like the days when they started out on the farm. Those were the good ol days.

Dell, started using cheap parts to compete. Then their product got crappy. But lately, I've seen some pretty nice
systems coming from Dell.

Love my new ASUS MB (z270) so that has got my vote. The PS is a bit small for a 1080. Within specs but.... a maxed 1080 draws ~430w and the cpu draws 65w. I guess it is what you are doing with it. No 4k and its probably alright. Also the 6th gen processors and below can use win7 (all flavors) if ya want to go that route and not win10 Home.
